With the ConVal case now pending before the New Hampshire Supreme Court, Election Day just around the corner, and a new legislative session soon to follow after that, there’s never been a better time to learn more about the approach New Hampshire uses to fund its public schools – and the many flaws inherent in that approach.
With that in mind, the NH School Funding Fairness Project has created a 30 minute video version of its engaging School Funding and Property Taxes presentation, available below. The video explains New Hampshire’s Constitutional responsibilities for funding an adequate education, explores the role local property taxes play in funding public schools, and details the enormous gap between state aid and actual school costs. It also discusses some of the broader consequences of New Hampshire’s approach to funding public schools and considers how the issue of school funding may emerge during the 2021-2022 legislative session.
