The NH School Funding Fairness Project, along with local community leaders, will host a press conference to mark 30 years since the start of the landmark Claremont School District v. Governor of New Hampshire lawsuit and to shine a light on the path forward toward greater school funding equity. The event will take place on Thursday, June 10 at 11:00 am in front of the State House (to the right of the steps). In the event of inclement weather, the press conference will be held via Zoom (details to follow).
Generations of New Hampshire students, educators, families, and communities have lived through our inequitable school funding system, even in Claremont’s wake, without knowing true justice. Session after session, the Legislature has failed to ensure all students receive a quality public education and all families have a fair tax bill.
Speakers instrumental to the original lawsuit (attorneys John Tobin, Andru Volinsky, and Tom Connair) will share their perspectives on the road to Claremont, the impact of the case, and the work policymakers have left undone. Speakers who live and work in the plaintiff districts today, including Molly Horn, Franklin High School Chemistry Teacher, and Kris Raymond, Allenstown School Board Chair, will share their experiences grappling with the case’s unfinished business. The event will conclude with a question and answer session and discussion with members of the press in attendance. Spokespeople from NHSFFP will be on hand to answer additional questions about the organization’s work, the current school funding legislative landscape, and solutions for a more equitable future. Though event is geared towards press, it will be open to the public.
Questions and requests for accommodations can be directed to Communications Manager Molly Murphy (mmurphy@fairfundingnh.org).
